Ohio State to Pay Tribute to Maria Tiberi with Helmet Stickers for the Florida A&M Game

By Jason Priestas on September 21, 2013 at 6:31a
Maria Tiberi will be honored by these stickers for Saturday's game with Florida A&M.

Ohio State will wear "MT" stickers, featuring a Buckeye Leaf, to pay tribute to Maria Tiberi in today's Florida A&M game. Maria, an Ohio State student and daughter of 10TV sports anchor Dom Tiberi, died in a a crash Tuesday night.

Nothing can bring a child back, but honoring one lost too young is a classy move out of Urban Meyer and the Ohio State football family.

This is why I'm proud to be an alumni of The Ohio State University.

Glad they're doing that for Dom and his family.   Has anyone at 11W heard if the university is going to also acknowledge the death of Jonathan Ferrell, former Florida A&M player (2009-2010) who as shot to death by police in Charlotte recently?   Not saying we need another sticker, but at the very least a moment of silence for a young man who was a teammate to some on the Rattlers roster and clearly a part of their football community.   He was shot to death by an officer who it is now ruled used excessive force.  The incident began after Farrell was involved in a nasty car accident that required him to crawl out the back of the car to escape.  He made it to the nearest house (some distance away) and sought help, but the woman didn't recognize him when he knocked on the door and called police claiming breaking and entering (because when seeking to break and enter, don't people always knock persistently first?).   When he appeared to still be approaching police after they tazered him, he was shot several times.    Another tragic death on the minds of our opponents' sideline today.
