Bo Pelini Pranks Nebraska

By DJ Byrnes on August 23, 2013 at 2:28p

The most perturbing thing is apparently how not-out-of-character Bo Pelini smashing a player's cellphone with a hammer is according to his team's stoic reaction.

That's funny. I liked Kenny Bell's reaction. Nice to see coach sour face can smile.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

He is smiling because OSU isn't on the regular season schedule, not because he has anything that resembles a sense of humor.  ;-)

I'm not racist, but if a prank is pulled on a crowd it's always funny to see the difference in black guy vs. white guy reactions.
Black dudes will just straight up acknowledge they were fooled by jumping around going "OHHHHHHHH" and high fiving and stuff. "Yo I was one second away from jumping in, I swear dawg, I swear!" haha.  Prank wars were/are definitely more fun with the black kids on my high school sports teams and with black friends, because white people just get sort of angry.
White dudes get all stiff in their chair like "Well this is an irregular occurrence.  I'm not sure how to react so I will resort to absolutely nothing.  I might perhaps just look really douchey because I'm pissed that I got fooled."  Or if it's a friend they might straight up punch you over something like that, while my black friends never punched me over a prank lol.
A little off topic, but it always amuses me...

Downvote this if you are a bigot. Same end result as what I first said.

I got your back on this one. Next time, don't start the post off with "I'm not a racist".  Pointing out cultural/societal differences isn't automatically racist. I'm picking up what you're putting down.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

That makes a lot of sense man.  Thank you.  I just wish I didn't feel like I had to start it like that haha. Oh well I guess it's still a sensitive topic for some people and that is something that simply will not change.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

You are in the 21-24 year old age range if the 87 is your birth year, as am I at 22.  It could definitely be a generational thing, as well as a geographical link between down/upvotes and living the south, north, or west.
Is this really so farfetched? I didn't realize that a very quick question regarding data interpretation would be negatively regarded.
Ok well clearly I'm wrong or a few people are just weird as hell.  It's fine if I'm wrong, just say something so I see the error of my ways instead of just clicking down.

brandonbauer87's picture

I'm 26, but close.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

yeah crap I thought I was 21 but im 22 my bad haha. I was born in late 90 so you guys understandabely have 4 years on me.  But I was doing math like a straight 3 year difference.
Dammit sometimes addition is easier to screw up than graphing a cos wave.
Also there is something about being this age that makes you feel like you are younger and even think it sometimes.  Perhaps the anxiety of having one foot out the door while having the other still firmly planted in carefree adolescence.

Naturally but what happened there is I got defensive and a little salty with my language.  While backtracking to fix the error I overshot my mark with the backspace button.

I knew you couldn't resist that one, Earle. Lol.

I can't figure out what you are trying to say and it's driving me bonkers and bananas!!!

umm, if you were born in '87, you CAN'T be between 21-24.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

Right. My bad. I explained above.
Im in Sociology and Law I haven't seen a number in like 2 or 3 years.  I used to be like 2 years ahead in math my teachers would all be so dissappointed haha.
I'm just gonna plead insanity. I swear I have a preponderance of evidence over here to show everybody.  Maybe then I won't be the most controversial fricking poster on here.  I don't seek it out...

@ChicagoBuckeye33 - Yeah, some of it is generational. The race riots in the 60's and the Equal Rights battles can make people of my generation a little cautious or sensitive. I do think things have gotten better for your generation, so it's good.

Personally I never get mad about pranks, partially because I have no choice. You can't be a freshman on any high school sports team and be offended by pranks. Some people need to get a sense of humor. In other news: thank god I am now a sophomore.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

Haha its a great feeling, right? No more is there a risk of you getting locked naked in the school's trophy case with school-colored paint splattered all over you like we did to this kid who was like 4 foot 10 and somehow made the freshmen team.
I got hit pretty bad as a frosh once; I got pantzed, including my compression shorts, in front of a cheerleading practice.  I pulled those shorts up faster than i thought humanly possible.

Jhesse17's picture

Hahahahahaha that's classic. The seniors at our school just made us yell pickup lines at the girls cross country team whenever they ran by the field. Good thing they didn't have the creativity to lock me in the trophy case.
PS: Sorry for the downvote. I meant to upvote you but I'm on my phone.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

It's cool man.  I never felt right locking anybody in a trophy case or hazing them cuz honestly, you're already teammates, what more do you need?  But that didn't stop me from laughing when the dueschier kids did it lol.
And wow man you had it EASY

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

Did you have the free will to come up with your own pick up lines or was it more like "you have to say 'hey baby are those reflective pants? Cuz I can see myself in them' hehehe."

gobucks96's picture

Well played, Bo... Good to see he can have a little fun now and again..

OurHonorDefend09's picture

Dude who falls over in the middle left had about the same reaction as kid in the the IU jersey release video. Absolutely hysterical.

Don't give up... Don't ever give up.

razrback16's picture

Glad to see Bo crack a smile there. At the end of the day I actually like Nebraska and like to see them do well, although I did thoroughly enjoy watching Urban obliterate Nebraska this past year.
Every time I watch that game it makes me think of that scene in the movie "Tyson" where Tyson is in the ring with his sparring partner and tells him he's going to count to 10 and if the dude doesn't knock him out by the end of his count to 10 he's going to kill him and he pretty much does -- we basically did squat for the first quarter, letting Nebraska do what they could and then turned on the flood gates for the last 3 quarters to roll up 63 points in about a 44 minute window. That's probably my favorite game to re-watch with the exception of the Michigan game from last year.

That is such a Bo Pelini type prank...Michigan State manikin was better

buckeyeEddie27's picture

Urban's prank would be showing up 5 minutes late in the morning. Only having actually spent the nite in the WHAC lifting, running, and devouring film.
Ha. Ha.
Jokes over.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

ChicagoBuckeye33's picture

Or he would be like "OK tomorrow you guys finally get a break from two-a-days!"
The team: "Yay"
Urban: It's gonna be our first three-a-day! Congrats! See you guys at 5 am sharp."

I, for one, am happy Nebraska is in the B1G.  I don't know how the rest of you feel.

They were a great addition.

They are a game I look forward to every year.  I hope we get them in Indy instead of a U of M rematch.  We needed to add two more Nebraskas, not Rutgers and Maryland.
BUT if we do go to 16 in the very near future, let's pray we get Ok St and OU, or Texas and FSU, or North Carolina and Clemson, or something cool like that.

This is funny. The reactions are the best part.

BuckeyeMark's picture

It is funny and it is good to see that Pelini knows how to laugh and smile.  I'm one of those who has always like Nebraska and think they make the BIG better.

That said, is it troubling to anyone that the whole prank is predicated on their believing Pelini is a big enough jerk to destroy someone's phone with a hammer and then get in a physical altercation with a player?  This prank wouldn't work for Meyer - kids would be confused, and uncertain with the hammer but the stuff out in the hall would give it away.  They'd know Meyer would never act that way (or any other coach with class).
Yeah, it's a prank but it's a prank that can't work/won't work unless Pelini is the King of Jerks.  Congrats - it worked.

CentralFloridaBuckeye's picture

That's funny, good to see he's got a sense of humor at times.

buckskin's picture

Man, that was funny as hell.  I like seeing Pelini having some fun with his team; Bell's reaction was great.  Wasn't Nebraska the school who let that kid run for a TD in their spring game?  Having fun and showing some class, kudos Nebraska.

BucksfanXC's picture

See I think it wasn't unbelievable enough for it to be shocking at first. Like you can totally see him actually smashing a phone and fighting the player on the hallway. I always hated Punk'd and the hidden camera stuff cuz it just seems mean.

I watched part of the Nebraska game in a sports bar (I guess that's what they call it) in Kearney, NE last year (stayed overnight on our way to CO).
The corn-holers in there were completely obnoxious a**holes... Until the second half when they started leaving, tails between their legs. It was AWESOME!
A couple of the patrons, as well as the bartender, didn't even know Bo played at tOSU.

Alpo's picture

That was pretty good. Good for him

I'm watching a high school game now, and his 4 star QB recruit just left the field by stretcher.  No signs of movement.
