Gardner was hard to miss, wearing an Oregon State University no-contact jersey that is almost as unnaturally bright as Michigan's "maize." The quarterback Jim Tressel declined to offer a scholarship to in favor of Braxton Miller had a solid afternoon playing against his teammates before ~18,000 Wolverine faithful.

The Wolverines unleashed their new offense during the intrasquad scrimmage at Michigan Stadium, and Gardner was clearly one of the best players on the field. He completed 11-of-16 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown during five series with the first-team offense.

He hooked up with true freshman tight end Jake Butt for a 12-yard score on his only TD of the day.

Beyond hooking up with Tight End Butt, Gardner looked even better once his backup took the field.

Walk-on quarterback Brian Cleary struggled as Gardner's replacement. His arm strength was an issue throughout the game, and could become a concern if he's pressed into action next year. He unofficially was 2-of-9 passing for 24 yards with one touchdown to Joe Reynolds.

He also fumbled a snap.

Uh oh. Better keep that arm warm, Shane Morris.

[love you so much, Kenny G]

"Beyond hooking up with Tight End Butt"

^Am I the only one immature enough to get a chuckle at that?

I was in the process of quoting that when I read your comment.

I knew someone would highlight this.

Lo and behold, first comment.

Right there with ya, LL....

I was just hoping for a mention of Taco tackling Butt.

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

I sense a future soundbyte:

"Taco shredding Butt"

I am not very smart, but I recognize that I am not very smart.

No, i thought it was funny.

Full Disclosure: I created this entire Buckshot for the sole purpose of writing that.

I am a 28 year old Army retiree due to injuries sustained in Afghanistan. My main disability is hearing loss. Watching the meatchicken spring game, the announcer said "Richard Ash." I heard Richard Ass. He will forever be known to me as Dick Ass. Had a few to drink......

LOL. And thank you for your service to this Great Country, Kacey Brown!
I had to work yesterday, and miss my first OSU Spring Game in about 10 years, unfortunately. I did watch most of it on BTN though.
Ironically, on my way home I had to come through Ann Arbor, and it was cold, dark and snowing off and on.
Then I get home and watch the Buckeye Spring Game in Cincy and notice the sun shining and some people even wearing short sleeves. What a contrast! The Sun is shining on the Buckeyes, baby!
I think it's a good omen.

Watching Cleary warm up is like watching a teenaged girl lisping "stop it" with a limp wristed hand gesture.

If I ever call Jake Butt "ass", it's pun ABSOLUTELY INTENDED!

Class of 2010.

what happens if he gets injured?

Nailed?

Er, you got it.....

Appears that butthurt runs rampant up there.

I am not very smart, but I recognize that I am not very smart.

Meatchicken sucks.

Watching the Michigan spring game and seeing all of the "_____, Ohio" behind the names, makes me kind of feel bad for all of those players who are probably silently wishing they would have been recruited by Ohio State instead lol.

Kaceybrown's picture

Ooooooooops....... Lmao. Gonna be a long 4 years.......

18,000?
We had more than that in Cincy!

More than twice that if we are counting.

From the looks of it, it was a generous estimation. Looked more like 11,000.

Dread's picture

I was there the cameras don't do us much justice. I looked around an estimated about 30000.

To top it off, the no. 13 ranked OSU men's lacrosse team beat UM 17-8 in a game played right after the Spring game at Michigan Stadium.

Definition of passionate:
OSU has 37,000 fans in an out of town stadium in the part of the state that is the least gung-ho for OSU.
UM has 18,000 fans at home on the same day.
(Caveat - was the weather really bad up there?)

Yes. It was cold and sleeting and snowing, off an on, with no sunshine.

lljjgg's picture

So pretty much a normal day in Michigan? I see.

Sounds like OSU's last year. You know the one when 81,000 fans showed up

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

I was there. Froze my a$$ off.

Same here.  Sat in the corner endzone of B deck just under the overhang from C deck.  By the end of the 3rd QTR I couldn't feel my face.  My wife to her credit didn't even ask to leave until the start of the 4th.  Weather is not an excuse.  We either care more or are just crazier then our counterparts to the north.

Just gonna say that. I sat there for the whole thing and froze my baguettes off.

Read that because Gardner is the only scholarship QB on the roster with both his ACL's intact, the "game" was even more glorified practice than normal (fans knew this in advance).  Might explain the low turnout.

buckeyedude's picture

Or, they knew that this Michelin team is going to suck.
