Braxton Miller to Start Saturday

For all of you Bauserman haters out there, you got your wish. Luke Fickell just confirmed on his weekly radio show that Braxton Miller will get his first career start at home this Saturday against Colorado.

I think this is a great move, as Bauserman proved that he's not the type of talent to lead this team to a Big Ten title. Miller, while inexperienced, has shown flashes that he can be a big time playmaker, but will need to find a way to limit turnovers so that the big plays far outweigh those freshman moments.

It looks like the Miller Era is here folks. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the start of something special.

Do you think so?  I don't, unless Miller is terrible.  And I don't expect Miller to be terrible.  I don't think he's terrible; he's just a freshman.  Although having come in as an early-enrollee, I'd have expected Miller to be farther along.

But as for Plan B:  Not Guiton?

On Freshmen QB's in the B1G...  We actually got away with a lot in 2009, with Freshman Tate Forcier running things on offense, and a Greg Robinson defense.  There is a lesson, in the fact that Denard Robinson (who, unlike Forcier was NOT an early enrollee) could not beat out his classmate Tate Forcier for the starting job in 2009.  2010 was a different story.  2012 could be a whole different story for Braxton Miller.

Better to trust the future than cling to the past. Fear of the unknown gets you nowhere. No risk, no reward. Even with mistakes, this is an opportunity to grow.

CGroverL's picture
CGroverL on 22 Sep 2011 - 2:52pm #

My thoughts exactly. I always thought that Miller playing was the best for the future and hoped that Stan Drayton would turn Jordan Hall into a 2nd coming of Percy Harvin. Those Florida offenses put up plenty of yards and points while not having a very effective passer. I did really think that Bauserman would win more games than Miller would this year but never expected for Bauserman to be more conservative and take less risks than the Bucks' offensive coaches do with their play calling. In fact, I didn't think that it was even possible to be more conservative than the Buckeyes' offensive staff. Bauserman proved me wrong and my foot is still stuck in my throat.

Anyway...I'm with you, Matt. Take chances to score more points but not to the effect that the mistakes kill you. Grow from here on out. I think that the growing process eliminates Bauserman from the playing field but since Miller's redshirt is burned already, I see no reason to not play him full time.

If Miller craps it up and we lose, than

1.We must've played bad on all aspects of the game i.e. Running the ball, defense, special teams.

2. He's a freshman and it will be his 1st start ever.

3. You will prob hear some people say "where the hell is Guiton or Graham!"

If Miller sucks on Saturday, I'm still 100% on board with him starting the rest of the season.  Every snap Braxton takes is an investment for 2012, 2013, and 2014.  I don't understand people who are still clinging to Bauserman/Graham/Guiton.  Braxton is the future. It's plain to see he has the most talent.

I don't get much out of beating Indiana 20-9 or Minnesota 21-13.  Play the guy that gives you a chance against the Wisconsins, Nebraskas, LSUs, Oregons, etc.

Yes, yes and yes.

Bauserman is not going to improve, he is 52 years old and at his ceiling.  What we have seen is what he has and with him are in trouble against any team with a decent defense.

Miller, while less experienced, has way more upside.  I am all for this move.

Also, Miller has not been throwing what I like to call, "WTF balls".  TP threw them in bunches and I think you all know what I am talking about.  Yes, Miller is leading defenders with his eyes, but he seems like he throws a better ball now than TP did as a Freshmen.  For example his interception was the result of leading a defender who got a hand up to create a highlight reel fluke of a INT and not of a WTF ball.

I'm sorry for not being sorry.

Rooster Buckburn's picture

was making this point the other day - Bauserman is not likely to improve at this point in his career - more reason than ever to embrace the future now

Anyone who has watched Bauserman perform mop up duty the last couple years knew that he brought very little to the table. Maybe if he was playing on a team stocked full of talent, like an SEC team with an extra recruiting class, he could get away with being less than mediocre. But not on this talent suspended/graduated/ran out on a rail Buckeye team.

If we are going to have less than a stellar year than lets start developing our future now.

P.S,

After meeting Guiton, TP, and Graham, and knowing the lineage of Graham I am still surprised Graham did not turn out to be more of a player. Standing next to Pryor he actaully looked bigger and with his family genetics I expected more out of him. Maybe if the Bucks had a first class O line.

I just hope the coaching staff are conveying the right message to Braxton. If he feels that as soon as he makes a mistake he will be pulled for Baus, then I am afraid he won't be very effective in his first start at least in the passing game. Let Braxton know that Joe B will get some PT (I think this is a given no matter how Braton plays) but that PT will not be subject to his play (good or bad).

Besides losing, nothing pissed me off more than Fickell/Bollman pulling him after the fumble in the Miami game.

I live in Denver and no one is really talking about this game probably because the Buffs have sucked for so long under Hawkins (this will change in a heart beat if they pull off the upset and will be a living hell for me).  I like their new HC, John Embry, and believe he has them on the right track.  He'll have them ready to play.

There's a BW3's in Arvada where a group gets together every week. The owner is an alum and reserves a large area for us. A large group of the Ohio State Rocky Mountain Alumni Club come here. A TV every 6 inches, fellow buckeyes, and servers who are comfortable with our Buckeye obsession. Here's the address:

FYI - Crocs is a few blocks closer to the Pepsi Center compared to Lodos

I too live in Colorado, but I'm down in the Colorado Springs area. Here's the Rocky Mountain Alumni Club's game watch locations.

If you're staying in Castle Rock, the closest to you is Lodo's. It's bee about a year since I last went since I now have the BTN. But I always found an intelligent group of people to talk with. They're not the rowdiest bunch I've ever watched a game with, so don't expect a lot of screaming. Granted I never watched a game there that we struggled hugely in as those were usually on ABC or somesuch. There are (or were) some pretty decent looking Buckeye ladies there. Plus one of the requirements for the Lodo staff seemed to be cuteness/hotness factor.

Mulligan's Pub is also a good choice, but that's way far out of your way.

I've always been content with the fact that Yes, this team will lose games with Braxton at the helm, because this team is young, and right now not very good.  They'll lose sure, he'll make mistakes sure, but better to get it all out this year so 2012 can be something special.  With Braxton at QB or not, I still feel this is a 4-6 loss team.

I had deja vu deja vu last Saturday.  Texas in 2005, USC in 2008, and now Miami in 2011.  Wonder if the next time we have a head coach that wants to start the slow white guy who can't throw consistent spirals he will look through the history books and go with the younger athletic QB instead.  I feel like our program some times acts like my high school football coach that would start seniors because he felt he owed it to them.

Right because only TP is to blame for all of this. Boom, Posey, Adams and Co. get off easy. They all did this. The fact that TP is the scapegoat in the eyes of most fans for this entire mess is ridiculous.

Actually, I think the punch to the face should go to Tressel.  If he would've been honest from the get go, we would've had 5 guys suspended for the first 5 games last year and all this crap would be behind us, plus the NCAA never would've been nosing around.  Dohrman and ESPN would've stayed away.  We never would've heard about car deals or Talbott, etc.

Ill take Guiton Graham And Miller over Bauserman at this point.  Guiton has always showed me he can play and wanted to make plays.  Bauserman has nver done that minus the Akron Game.  He's the guy you put in to keep the real qb from taking anymore hits or handoff whenthe starter takes a big hit and has to sit A PLAY. I cant watch us lose with Bauserman i can on the other hand take solice in knowing that losing with Brax is making strides to the future along with the other studs on Offense.  With the guys we have Minus the line the next two 3 yrs look great for us
