Have a good Monday.
“I STILL HOLD A GRUDGE.” The aftermath of Tattoogate still bothers Urban Meyer.
In a recent episode of The Triple Option podcast, Meyer told co-host Rob Stone that the penalties Jim Tressel and Ohio State received – for Tressel, a five-year show cause and a $250,000 fine, and for Ohio State, vacated wins, a postseason ban and a scholarship reduction – were too punitive, especially when considering the current lack of enforcement in college football.
“I know this one well because I lived it,” Meyer said. “Our 2012 team went undefeated and was not able to compete (in the postseason). We would have played Notre Dame for the national championship that year. It was very punitive. Jim Tressel, whom I know well — once again, I know this case because I lived it, and I was hired directly after Coach Tressel resigned. There was no competitive advantage (to the penalties).
“They were trading memorabilia for tattoos. Competitive advantage, zero. There’s nothing there. Was it wrong? Yes. Jim Tressel was accused of lying. … He was aware of (the trading). He ended it. … But the inconsistency of that penalty, to this day, still bothers me.”
Meyer’s frustration continued when Stone asked him how he felt about Tressel’s appearance on the June 6, 2011 cover of Sports Illustrated.
“I still hold a grudge about that whole thing,” he said. “I know Coach Tressel. I followed him, so I know exactly what his program was all about, and that was wrong. That was a mistake on a lot of fronts. The support Tressel received in Columbus I don’t think was fair. Certainly, in the national – it’s actually a joke, to be honest with you. Remember now, competitive advantage, none. There was none.”
Reinstate the Tattoo Five!
IT’S AN EVIL WORLD WE LIVE IN. Speaking of the Tattoo Five, those men walked so Jeremiah Smith could run.
Over $10,000 for a pair of jeans is… something. Reselling them for $6,000 is… also something.

THE BROTHERHOOD IS REAL. Tears flowed inside St. Vincent-St. Mary High School last week as former Ohio State cornerback Doran Grant and wide receiver Parris Campbell watched their No. 21 jerseys rise to the rafters in the school’s gymnasium.
“I really didn’t think I would get that emotional, honestly,” Campbell told the Akron Beacon Journal after the event. “But just standing up there in front of everybody, in front of my family, just the look on their faces, especially after watching that video, just reliving everything, it just brought all my emotions to the front, and I just couldn’t let go.”
During a speech to those gathered inside LeBron James Arena, Campbell thanked his father, Parris Campbell Sr., and his mother, Shelly Woodruff, for raising him and helping carve a path for him to chase his football dreams. He also shared a powerful message to Grant, whom Campbell said he emulated throughout his career with the Fighting Irish.
“I wanted to be just like him and literally followed the same exact path,” Campbell said. “It’s so special that we got to share this moment together. This is something we’re going to remember forever. I never got to tell Doran straight to his face that I wanted to be just like him. When I told him, he was emotional and it was just a really cool moment.”

Grant told the Akron Beacon Journal he “broke down” on stage, even though he can often keep his composure in celebratory moments.
“When you’re here playing, you’re not necessarily thinking about the younger crop coming behind you,” Grant said. “But to inspire (Campbell) to that degree and then he’s actually fulfilling what he wanted, it just made it all the better. I love that kid.”
Man, The Brotherhood is real.
Grant and Campbell were teammates on Ohio State’s 2014 national championship team. Grant was a team captain and started at cornerback, while Campbell cut his teeth on special teams. Grant later became the Pittsburgh Steelers’ fourth-round draft pick in 2015. Campbell later emerged as one of the Buckeyes’ top pass catchers in 2017 and 2018, becoming the Indianapolis Colts’ second-round pick in 2019.
Currently, Grant leads the St. Vincent-St. Mary’s football team after he was hired as its head coach in December 2023.
“St. Vincent-St. Mary is just totally unique,” Grant told the Akron Beacon Journal. “You can try to mock it. You can try to get close to it. You can try to knock it off the pedestal. It is what it is. It’s a place of family. It’s a place of tradition. It’s a place of culture and love. The people around it love it and do their best to take care of it.”
(That sounds a lot like Ohio State!)
Campbell, meanwhile, is a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys after he signed a one-year, $1.34 million contract this offseason. Campbell is coming off a one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in which the Birds won Super Bowl LIX.
“This is a childhood dream for me to have a star on my helmet,” Campbell told the Akron Beacon Journal. “I grew up a Dallas Cowboys fan, believe it or not, so it’s come full circle for me.”
SCARLET AND GRAY RUNS DEEP. The Cleveland Browns hosted a youth football camp last week. When a Browns staffer introduced former Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham at the event, many of the children booed.
