Skull Session: Buckeye Offensive Line is Nation's Best, Denzel Burke Hasn't Allowed a Touchdown, and Dawand Jones Just Hat to Potty

Dawand Jones has great hair in today's skull session.

I am delighted to announce that I am now an alcoholic.

Word of the Day: Jaunt.

BEST OF THE BIGGEST. You might be surprised to hear this given the recent run game struggles and all, but through 10 games Ohio State actually has the top-rated offensive line in the country.

1. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES

Ohio State has six offensive linemen with a PFF grade north of 75.0 this season, which is more than any other team in college football. They have a high recruiting pedigree starting along their offensive line with two five-star recruits (Petit-Frere and Johnson) and two four-star recruits (Munford and Wypler), and all four have clearly lived up to the hype. Petit-Frere and Munford, in particular, have been the stars over the last couple of years and currently are inside the top 100 of PFF’s 2022 Draft Board.

The one starter who wasn’t amongst the blue-chip recruits in their respective class is Jones, who has arguably been the most impressive performer in 2021. Jones is a 6-foot-8, 360-pound former star basketball player from Indiana. He actually left football for a season in high school to dedicate his time to basketball before returning to the gridiron his last two years. Jones turned down offers from mid-majors to play basketball so that he could play football for the Buckeyes, and now he’s one of the five highest-graded tackles in the Power Five in his first year starting. Jones has been a monster in the run game, in particular, earning an 88.5 grade in that facet this season.

The thing is, this isn't all that unbelievable because individually, everybody has been pretty solid all season, it's just matter of putting it all together as a collective unit on an everydown basis.

But with six guys effectively grading out as champions on the season, that hypothetically shouldn't be a problem going forward.

DO NOT THROW ON BURKE. I don't think there are enough stats to show just how good Denzel Burke has been for the Buckeyes this season, so I'm just going to keep giving them to you.

Yesterday, it was the fact that he has allowed just one (1) catch on a ball thrown more than 20 yards downfield, which is the same number of those balls he's intercepted. So basically, when you throw downfield against him, he's got just as good of a chance of coming down with it as your receiver.

Crazy, but then there's this:

Dude has started nine games as a true freshman, played 293 snaps, and hasn't allowed a single touchdown in coverage.

And the thing about corners is they almost always get better with experience...

PREGAME POTTY. Turns out, the only thing that can slow down Dawand Jones this season is a bad sausage biscuit.

In an extremely relatable moment, Dawand was out there getting ready for the game, then he felt that ominous rumble at the bottom of his stomach and had to go "handle some business" back in the locker room.

God help that toilet, man.

ONE-ON-ONE WITH OLAVE. Chris Olave has been around these parts for longer than you could ever expect a player, so I'd like to think we know him fairly well at this point. But there's no harm in getting to know him a little better with a little Senior Bowl Q&A.

Who is the best player you have ever played against?

“I’d have to say Nick Bosa is the best player I’ve ever played against.”

...

If you could bring one teammate to the NFL with you, who would it be?

“Probably Garrett Wilson. He is one of the most talented players I’ve seen. Being able to have us on both sides of the field would be really cool.”

You’re stuck on a deserted island with three teammates – who are they?

“I would probably have Gee Scott. Gee’s gotta be in there – good vibes. Dawand Jones. He’s just a big body. If we have to move something or make something he would be good. Lastly, would probably be Cam Brown. He’s got it all. He’s my dog, so he has to be there. He is one of my closest friends so he’s gotta be up there.”

Dawand Jones is a great answer from a pure utility standpoint, but the one downside is that he's a big mouth to feed if you're worried about food consumption. I'm sure my guy could put down some coconuts.

Gotta look at this from all angles, Chris.
