Urban Meyer made an appearance at yesterday's MLB All-Star Charity Softball game, where he did Urban Meyer things:

Baller.

URBAN MEYER LOVES HIM SOME BRAXTON. Urban Meyer has noted in the past that, traditionally, a blue-chip QB comes into college and sits behind a "grinder" for a year or two to learn what it takes to win at the next level.

It didn't exactly go that way for Braxton Miller, who was thrown into the fires out of necessity in 2011. (It does not seem like four years ago.)

Because of that, Braxton didn't develop the habits it takes to elevate a really good player to an elite player. His year on the sideline has changed all that though.

From TIm May of Dispatch.com:

"I already graduated, so I’ve got more time on my hands to actually do extra stuff outside schoolwork,” he said. “I can actually be in here all day with Coach, with the strength coach, with the trainers. There’s a whole bunch of different things I can upgrade my level from the past year.”

Meyer likes what he sees in Miller.

“I see a little more focus than I saw (earlier in his career), but that’s not because of the injury; that’s called maturity,” Meyer said. “The biggest difference I’ve seen this year probably more than ever is just a relentless attention to detail.”

That's a scary, scary thought for opposing defensive coordinators this year. Because Braxton Miller is going to be on the field regardless this fall. But don't take my word for it:

Miller has something else going for him, too: He holds a special place in Meyer’s heart because of how he carried the Buckeyes in Meyer’s first season, when OSU was barred from postseason play, yet went undefeated.

“If he’s not playing for us in 2012 with our personnel (at the skill positions), you’re .500. You’re not very good,” Meyer said.

[...]

“I feel a tremendous obligation — me personally as the head coach at Ohio State — to Braxton Miller and his family. Absolutely,” Meyer said. “Now, what does that mean? That’s to be determined. But is there an obligation to Braxton? About as obligated as I’ve ever been to any player for what he has gone through and what he has meant to this team.”

"That's to be determined." Read into that what you will, but we haven't seen the last of No. 5 regardless. That's a win for Ohio State and its fans.

SAY, DID YOU KNOW OSU IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD?. Today's chapter in "Ohio State has some playmakers on its roster."

I look forward to laughing at people who melt down if Ohio State trails Minnesota by three midway through the third quarter against Minnesota. Those people used to infuriate me, but how can you do anything but laugh at people like that?

ELI APPLE WADES INTO MEDIA GAME. Some programs are busy getting drunk and abusing women. Others are doing stuff like this:

If you fail at Ohio State it's because you want to.

SO LONG SCHLEGEL. Anthony Schlegel, a strength coach assistant who once Rock Bottomed a crunk student into the depths of Hell, is off to become a business tycoon:

I would think Schlegel would make quite the enforcer in the boardroom. You can never have too many enforcers.

ROBERT SMITH DROPS AN APP. Ohio State's former RB has his eyes on becoming the next Mark Zuckerberg.

From Taylor Soper of GeekWire.com:

A former NFL running back is trying to create the Facebook for health and wellness.

Robert Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler who played eight seasons for the Minnesota Vikings, is the founder of Fan Health Network (FHN), a new app that features athletes and famous sports personalities who share wellness advice and encouragement.

FHN is also a social platform, allowing users to post their fitness tracker data and compete for prizes. In addition, the app provides workout curriculum that include videos and articles.

Workout levels: Noob, Moderate, Insane... and "Blogger."

LET'S WATCH A MICHIGAN MAN GET GORED. *A Michigan Man thought it'd be a good idea to do the Running of the Bulls. It ended about as well as any Wolverine athletic venture on this side of 2000.

THOSE WMDs. Being a stranger sounds fun... Boy band singer collapses mid-flight after wearing all his clothes to avoid extra baggage fees... El Chapo escapes from maximum security prison via a 1.5 km tunnel and a motorcycle... Word of the day: copacetic... #Teens of Silicon Valley.
