Earlier this week Steve Rohlik preached the importance of proper preparation for the men’s hockey Bucks going into their series against Niagara. It looks like his team got the message. Ohio State scored early and often and destroyed the Purple Eagles.

Matt Weis started the scoring just 40 seconds into the game. Luke Stork, Tommy Parran, and Nick Schilkey added goals before the teams even reached the first intermission break. That was the end of the night for Niagara goaltender Jackson Teichroeb.

The Buckeyes burned through another Purple Eagles goalie in the second period. Dave Gust, Stork, and Parran netted three goals in just over a minute. Joe O’Brien exited the net in favor of Guillame Therien.

Therien fared no better. Schilkey struck twice, completing his first career hat trick. The senior captain now owns seven goals in the 2016-17 season which currently makes him the second best goal scorer in the nation.

John Wiitala chipped in a third period tally to bring Ohio State’s score to a nice, round 10. In all 14 Buckeyes recorded points in the win. Weis led the team with four total points. Parran, and Schilkey each finished with three.

Matt Tomkins was dinged for a couple of goals. Overall, though, it was a relatively quiet night for the netminder. He made 19 saves on 21 shots. Fellow senior Logan Davis played the final 5:05 but faced zero shots.

The teams conclude their series tomorrow night. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm ET. Live stats (free) and an online video stream ($) are available via Niagara.

Around the Big Ten

Minnesota scraped out an overtime victory against Clarkson. Penn State and Wisconsin were winners over Canisius and St. Lawrence, respectively. Michigan State defeated Princeton for its first W of the year. Michigan, which was upset by Vermont, was the only B1G loser on the night.

Bulldogs Defeat Women's Hockey Bucks

The Ohio State women did not enjoy similar success on Friday. They suffered their worst loss of the season. A four-goal opening period chased Kassidy Sauve from the net. Kaylee Remington came in in relief (her first action as a Buckeye) and allowed another two goals. The game ended in a 6-0 win for No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth. The teams meet again tomorrow afternoon at 1pm ET at the OSU Ice Rink.
