The Big Ten announced today that Ohio State defenseman Josh Healey is suspended one game as the result of a check made early in last Saturday’s contest. The Alberta native was handed a major penalty after a big hit near the visitors’ bench. He was also given a game misconduct and a game ejection.

The Buckeyes have a bye this week so Healey will sit out the first game of Ohio State’s Thanksgiving week series at No. 6 Nebraska-Omaha. He is eligible to return that Saturday. The junior D-man has recorded two assists and 10 blocked shots through the season’s first 10 games.

There isn’t an official stat for hits but if there were Healey’s number would be a sizable one. He is a physical player whose crushing checks are usually an asset for the Buckeyes. Unfortunately he missed the mark a bit this week.
