Beating Michigan was catharsis enough for Ohio State fans entering Saturday. But the way the Buckeyes ultimately did it made it that much sweeter.
Ohio State came out throwing the ball, but took control with its ground attack in the second half, physically dominating Michigan at the line of scrimmage. In easily the offensive line's best performance of the season, the Buckeyes outrushed the Wolverines 110 yards to -8 in the second half. They broke their rival's will.
Dominating the time of possession battle 40 minutes to 20, Ohio State's defense smothered Michigan as soon as it dedicated itself to stopping the run game. Wolverine quarterback Bryce Underwood finished 8-of-18 passing for 63 yards with an interception. It's the first time since 2007 that Michigan didn't score a touchdown in The Game.
Saturday was a catharsis for Ohio State fans, players, assistant coaches and above all else, Ryan Day. He's checked the last box to be considered among the nation's very best head coaches. If the Buckeyes finish this season with a national championship, he'll separate himself as the best.
