Ohio State bulldozes Grambling State 70-0 and improves to 2-0 on the season.
While Grambling State isn’t expected to give Ohio State much competition on the field on Saturday, it is debatable which school has the best marching band.
Grambling State’s “World Famed” Marching Band is in Columbus for Saturday’s game, and it’s one of the most famous marching bands in the country. But the Ohio State Marching Band is, too, and Ohio State football coach Ryan Day made it clear at Saturday’s Skull Session where his allegiances lie.
“Let’s make sure everyone understands one thing: The Best Damn Band in the Land resides here in Columbus, Ohio,” Day said.
Ohio State tight ends coach Keenan Bailey also made his stance clear about who he thinks the best band in the country is and encouraged both TBDBITL and the Ohio State alumni band – which will also be performing at Saturday’s game – to show their superiority on Saturday afternoon in the Shoe.
“All week when I hear about our opponent, I keep hearing about one thing and that’s their band, and everybody says they have a great band. So I did my research and they do have a great band, I’ve got a whole lot of respect for Grambling’s band. However, there’s a difference between having a great band and having The Best Damn Band in the Land,” Bailey said. “So my challenge to you guys, the alumni here today and the current band members, for four quarters, let’s make this shit a battle of the bands.”
Bailey also hyped up the crowd during his speech at Skull Session, using a famous SEC slogan to praise Ohio State fans for how loud they were during last week’s game against Texas.
“Last weekend, we all sent a message loud and clear. The guys behind me sent a message that sure, there’s some new faces, some new names, but one thing will never change and that’s the fight of the Buckeyes,” Bailey said. “Buckeye Nation sent a message as well; you guys showed everybody that the Shoe can be the hardest place to play in the country ... you guys showed the nation that when it comes to college football in the great state of Ohio, it just means more.”
While the Buckeyes are 55.5-point favorites against Grambling State, Ohio State tight end Bennett Christian promised the crowd that the Buckeyes will play just as hard this week as they did last week in their 14-7 win over Texas.
“Last week was a great start on a long journey, but I promise you one thing: This team is not taking its foot off the gas, and I challenge you fans to do the same thing,” Christian said.
