A few months after being drafted by the defending Super Bowl champions, former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord is searching for a new team.
McCord was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday as the Pennsylvania native delivered a subpar preseason following his section by the Eagles with the 181st pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. In his final preseason contest against the Jets on Friday, McCord finished 15-of-35 for 136 yards and an interception.
McCord signed a four-year, $4,461,232 deal with the Eagles and was set to make $840,000 this season. The writing might have been on the wall for McCord over the weekend when the Eagles traded for Vikings backup quarterback Sam Howell, who will back up starting signal caller Jalen Hurts.
If McCord clears waivers, he could be brought back by the Eagles on the team's practice squad.
McCord was Ohio State's starting quarterback in the 2023 season, then transferred since he wasn't guaranteed to be a starter with the Buckeyes. At Syracuse, McCord led the nation in passing yards and the Orange to a 9-3 regular season record in 2024. In his college career, he threw for 8.555 yards, 61 touchdowns and 20 interceptions while completing 66.2 percent of his passes.
