Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields suffered an apparent toe injury Thursday in a practice with the New York Jets that appeared ominous at first, but fortunately it turned out to be a minor injury.
Per reporters in attendance, Fields was hurt in the fifth play of a team period on a rollout passing play intended for former Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert, started limping, sat down on the field and eventually limped off.
A trainer checked Fields, which eventually led to him being carted off the field. Per Newsday Sports' Al Iannazzone, Fields was able to walk into the Jets' team facility on his own strength after being carted off.
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn told reporters following practice Fields had suffered a toe injury on his right foot and it's too early to know the severity at this time. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport later reported Fields dislocated his toe, avoiding a fracture and an injury to his big toe.
The Jets shared some good news in a statement a few hours later saying Fields is day-to-day with his dislocated toe and avoided serious injury.

Fields landed a lucrative contract with the New York Jets in the offseason, signing a two-year, $40 million with the expectation he'd be the team's full-time starter this season. He played in 10 games last season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting six, and completed 65 percent of his passes and threw for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while running for 289 yards and five scores.
Ohio State fans were excited to see Fields reunite with college teammates Garrett Wilson and Ruckert and despite a few scary hours following the injury, are on schedule for that reunion to take place on the field this season.
