Ohio State was very pleased – and still is – with its running back haul in the 2021 class of Evan Pryor and TreVeyon Henderson.

Michigan running back Donovan Edwards didn't take that lightly, though. Edwards, a five-star prospect who was also heavily recruited by Ohio State in that class, told 247Sports during Traverse City's Wolverine Weekend that he was motivated to beat Ohio State after it accepted the commitments of Pryor and Henderson.

“I was their No. 1 running back on the board,” Edwards told 247Sports. “I was just taking my time during the recruitment, and they told me they were going to take two running backs. I'm like, ‘Cool. That's perfect … you've got to have two running backs in the class at least.’ And Evan (Pryor) committed first. I was like, ‘Alright, cool.’ I was still taking my time with the recruitment. Then they took TreVeyon (Henderson). I was just like, ‘Alright, bet! Now it's on! Now it's on!’ I was just like, ‘Alright, I'm about to go to a school and just kick y'all ass!’ That's how I was feeling. I'm going to go to a school and let y’all see what y’all missed out on. And... look at it.”

If Edwards was motivated to stick it to Ohio State, he held up his end of the bargain in Michigan's 45-23 victory in Columbus last season where he ran for 216 yards on 22 carries with two rushing touchdowns. The two teams will next meet in Ann Arbor on Nov. 25, where the Buckeyes hope to stop a two-game skid against their archrival.
