Ohio State has added another kicker via the transfer portal.

Former Kent State kicker Casey Magyar announced his commitment to Ohio State on Wednesday. He told Eleven Warriors he is joining the Buckeyes as a preferred walk-on.

Magyar, a product of nearby Dublin Coffman High School, appeared in two games for Kent State in 2021, making one of two extra point attempts. He did not play this past season after entering the transfer portal in July.

He becomes the third kicker in three years to join Ohio State via the transfer portal, following Noah Ruggles (North Carolina) in 2021 and Parker Lewis (USC) this past summer. He’s the second specialist to join the Buckeyes via the transfer portal over the past week, as former Arizona State long snapper John Ferlmann committed to Ohio State on Saturday.

The move gives Ohio State another option at kicker for the 2023 season, in which it will need a new kicker to replace Ruggles on field goals and extra points. Lewis, Jake Seibert and rising sophomore walk-on Jayden Fielding (who has handled kickoff duties for Ohio State this season) are also candidates to take over that job.

Ohio State also landed a preferred walk-on commitment from the high school ranks on Wednesday as Medina High School wide receiver Brennen Schramm announced he would be joining the Buckeyes next season.
