Paris Johnson Jr.’s foundation is a finalist for a national award.

The Paris Johnson Jr. Foundation is one of seven finalists for the Football Writers Association of America’s Armed Forces Merit Award, an award given annually by the FWAA to an individual and/or group within college football that has a military background and/or makes an impact on the military community.

Johnson’s foundation is up for the award in recognition of the work he has done to help veterans in need. The Paris Johnson Jr. Foundation has raised more than $10,000 to help veterans, young student-athletes and others in need, serving more than 100 veterans in the process.

Just last week, the Paris Johnson Jr. Foundation held a coat drive in Columbus to collect winter coats, hats, gloves, socks, hand-warmers and gift cards for people in need.

Ryan Day wrote a letter of support to the FWAA to advocate for Johnson’s candidacy for the award and said Johnson is a “wonderful civilian, one who cares and takes care of those who are less fortunate.”

“He does this through his foundation,” Day wrote. “These efforts that Paris does with his foundation are indicative of the leader that he is … on the field and off. He is a conscientious young man, an incredibly sincere and thoughtful individual and someone I can’t wait to see succeed in life as an upstanding citizen.”

The winner of the Armed Forces Merit Award will be announced between 6-6:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 on ESPN.
