Make it back-to-back home wins for the Buckeyes to start the season.

It was never really in doubt on Saturday as Ohio State throttled Arkansas State, 45-12, in Columbus. The Buckeyes might not have covered the 43.5-point, but it was a dominant effort on both sides of the ball for the scarlet and gray.

Ryan Day discussed the win with media members at a postgame press conference after the game, and here's a bullet-point breakdown of everything Day talked about in the aftermath of Ohio State's Week 2 victory over the Red Wolves.

Ryan Day

  • Day says "the middle of the field was available" against Arkansas State, which bailed out to stop the run against Ohio State.
  • "We gave them two possessions on penalties. One of them was a turnover." Day says it's going to be "a huge emphasis point this week."
  • On the Buckeye defense: "It was kind of a bend don't break style today, based on what they were doing."
  • Day says the Ohio State offense didn't finish as strong as he wanted it to.
  • On Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming: "We just want to make sure they're 100% before starting a game. ... They're getting closer."
  • Day says Marvin Harrison Jr.'s route-running is "very mature. ... the potential's there." Day says it's important that the Buckeyes "win the outside," and Harrison did that for Ohio State.
  • Day says there's "no concern" that Mike Hall's injury will be a long-term situation.
  • "Part of only having 54 plays is because we had a couple three-and-outs." Day says "I think you can see the potential, for sure."
  • "What you don't want to do is take winning for granted ... I know there's gonna be a lot of things" to improve in the week to come.
  • Day says the Buckeyes "want to be able to control the game" with the run, and got too pass-heavy in 2021.
  • "The good news is, we've already played a top-five opponent so we've already proven ourselves in some ways."
  • Day says the Buckeyes are trying to get Cade Stover more involved in the passing game, and says Mitch Rossi and Gee Scott Jr. "deserve to be a part of the offense."

Six players also met with reporters after the game: C.J. Stroud, Marvin Harrison Jr., TreVeyon Henderson, Steele Chambers, Cody Simon and Josh Proctor. You can hear what they had to say in the videos below.
