Across the Shield: DaVon Hamilton Nabs First Career Sack, Malcolm Jenkins Leads Stout Saints Defense

Yet again, it was a mixed bag for former Buckeyes who are now in the NFL yesterday. DaVon Hamilton, who has come on strong as of late for the Jaguars, recorded his first career sack, while Malcolm Jenkins and the stout Saints defense (I know, that's an oxymoron, but it really was stout yesterday!) held the 49ers to just 13 points with Jenkins nabbing another interception.

On the other hand, a crucial roughing the passer penalty by Chase Young cost the Washington Football Team 15 yards, which allowed Matt Prater and the Lions to win it with a field goal at the horn.

DaVon Hamilton's First Sack

It seemed like a value pick at the time when the Jaguars snagged DaVon Hamilton in the third round, and he has certainly proven to be a young bright spot on a weak Jaguars team so far.

Yesterday, Hamilton notched his first career sack, getting to MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers.

It is likely the first of many for Hamilton, who has come a long way from being a three-star Columbus kid.

Malcolm Jenkins, The Ageless Wonder

On the other side of the spectrum from the rookie Hamilton is the ageless veteran Malcolm Jenkins. After recording an interception last week, Jenkins made it back-to-back with this snag.

Without the pick there, the 49ers would have likely been able to put up at least three points on the board. Instead, they came away with nothing. Jenkins, Marshon Lattimore, and the rest of the Saints defense held the Niners to just 13 points, and kept pace with the Buccaneers in the NFC South.

Chase Young Makes Rookie Mistake

It wasn't all peaches-and-cream for the Buckeyes in the NFL this week. Chase Young made a major rookie mistake when he hit Matthew Stafford late, which resulted in a 15-yard penalty, putting the Lions in range for a long game-winning field goal, which Matt Prater nailed.

There is no doubt that Young will learn from this mistake, and the stud defensive end is still one of the frontrunners for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Elflein Released by Vikings

After an up-and-down tenure in Minnesota, offensive lineman Pat Elflein was released by the Vikings after recovering from an injury.

Elflein, presumably healthy, will now be able to compete for a roster spot somewhere else, although he remains unsigned at this time.
