On another timeline, Urban Meyer substituted Joe Burrow for an injured J.T. Barrett with Ohio State trailing in the third quarter in the Big House. On that timeline, Burrow went on to bring the Buckeyes back from the brink of oblivion and solidified his claim as the heir to Barrett's throne.
On this timeline, however, we know Burrow now plays for the LSU Tigers. Barrett is right down the road with the New Orleans Saints and thinks Burrow has what it takes to succeed in Baton Rouge while acknowledging the broken hand that altered the projection of his career.
"That set him back, but he was balling," Barrett said. "He was making throws where I turned and looked at the coach like, 'Ooh wee!'"
Barrett believes Burrow's intelligence will set him apart from his new compatriots.
"I think the biggest attribute for him is he's smart and knows where to go with the ball... At the end of the day, I think he'll be able to make the plays to win."
Given the proximity of the two friends, we know Barrett will be watching and rooting for Burrow.
