The New York Giants announced the season-ending suspension of second-year cornerback Eli Apple on Wednesday afternoon for "a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team."

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the final straw was Apple refusing to take the field with the scout team during practice. He then argued with a coach.

The Giants fined Apple two weeks ago after the healthy scratch violated league and team policy by tweeting during his team's contest, a spree which included retweeting an Eleven Warriors video of former teammate Rod Smith (now with the Dallas Cowboys) icing the Giants.

Teammate and All-Pro safety Landon Collins called the 2015 first-round pick a "cancer" and lambasted him in a series of interviews before bizarrely  tweeting support for his "teammate/brother."

That's on top of NJ.com reporting strife among the Apple clan as the root of the Big Apple troubles.

Apple signed a $15 million contract with the franchise back in 2016. He appeared in 11 games in 2017, compiling 41 tackles and 8 passes defensed.
