Football Bowl Series teams will add a 10th assistant coach Jan. 9, and Zach Barnett of Football Scoop reports Ohio State's man could be current Washington State defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.

In three seasons at Washington State’s defensive coordinator, Grinch has helped the Cougars improve from 103rd nationally to 28th in yards per play allowed and from 117th to 47th in scoring. Wazzu has also racked up a 26-12 record during Grinch’s tenure after going 12-25 during Mike Leach’s first three seasons.

Evan Closky, a KREM-TV reporter out of Pullman, Washington, later confirmed the report.

Unsurprisingly, Urban Meyer's good friend Chip Kelly thinks highly of Grinch, whom he endorsed when Mike Leach hired the defensive back specialist away from Missouri in 2015.

"He’s a stud," Kelly told FOX Sports about his former New Hampshire colleague. "He’s a real rising star. One of the best teachers I’ve been around."

Grinch hails from Grove City, a suburb of Columbus. He graduated from Mount Union in 2002 and played on three Purple Raider national title teams.

S&P+ currently rates Grinch's Cougars as the No. 10 defense in the country. He makes $600,000 a year in his current position.
