Supreme '18 Tracker: Blue Smith Hauls In Game-Winning Hail Mary While Emory Jones Leads Heard County to Biggest Win in School History

Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Ohio State's Supreme '18 recruiting class have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.

JUST THROW IT UP

L'Christian "Blue" Smith spent most of the recruiting process hearing outside discussion about whether he'd play tight end or wide receiver in college. But no matter where he lines up on the field, one thing is clear: the Ohio State four-star commit has some of the best hands in the country.

He proved as much in Huber Heights Wayne's game at Fairmont on Friday night, as he hauled in a 39-yard deflected pass with 14.6 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Warriors a 35-28 win.

If you slow the video down, you can see the Firebirds' defender appeared to intercept the ball as both he and Smith dove into the end zone. The ball somehow ended up in Smith's hands for the score.

Smith finished the game with nine catches for 135 yards and the game-winner.

TROPHY GAME

Well rested after consecutive open weeks, Ohio State four-star quarterback commit Emory Jones accounted for 206 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns to help Heard County knock off defending state runners-up Callaway, 35-28, on Friday night. It marked the Cavaliers' first regular-season loss in more than two years.

It was a back-and-forth affair, but the Braves took the lead for good on a short run  by tailback Aaron Beasley with just over two minutes remaining. Jones' throw on the deep corner route — which he said dreamed about the night before — set up the game-winner.

"If we run the scissor route with the post and the corner, I swear, I thought it just like that," Jones told Eleven Warriors after the game. "I'll read where the safety goes and hit it."

Heard County now holds a one-game lead and the tie-breaker edge over Callaway in Region 5-AA.

CALIFORNIA KNOWS HOW TO FOOTBALL

Friday night's matchup between No. 15 St. John Bosco and top-ranked Mater Dei was billed as the game of the year in high school football, and it lived up to the hype for all 48 minutes.

The Monarchs jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind five-star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who finished the game with 201 yards receiving, two touchdowns and a 51-yard punt return for the score. It wasn't the best effort from the Braves' defense, which features Ohio State four-star safety commit Jaiden Woodbey, but they battled back and cut the lead to 28-21 at the half.

Both defenses tightened up in the second half, with a field goal being the only score from either team. Four-star linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu led the Monarchs with 2.5 sacks, while Woodbey and the Braves held their offense to a season low in points.

Mater Dei actually beat Bosco in their regular season matchup last year, only to drop their meeting in the playoffs. Will the same theme play out again this fall? Stay tuned.
