Ohio State is hiring a former Alabama staffer as its new director of player personnel.

Lettermen Row’s Alex Gleitman reported Sunday that Sam Petitto, who was the director of personnel operations at Alabama, is joining Ohio State’s staff as director of player personnel. Petitto will serve as the lead assistant to general manager Mark Pantoni, replacing Marc Votteler, who left Ohio State after one year as its director of player personnel to become the associate athletic director of player personnel at Mississippi State.

Petitto is listed as an employee of the Ohio State football program in Ohio State’s staff directory. He is set to start his role with the Buckeyes on Monday, according to Gleitman.

Petitto had worked for Alabama since 2016, serving as a key member of the recruiting staff under Nick Saban for the past eight years. New Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer had brought in his own player personnel staff, however, bringing general manager Courtney Morgan with him from Washington. Alabama also hired former Ohio State assistant director of player personnel Eron Hodges away from TCU to be the Crimson Tide’s associate director of player personnel.

Ohio State’s hiring of Petitto comes after the Buckeyes added three Alabama transfers to its roster in January: safety Caleb Downs, center Seth McLaughlin and quarterback Julian Sayin.
