Mike Boynton Jr. is officially Michigan's men's basketball coach.

Michigan announced Friday that it has removed the interim tag from Boynton, who was named Dusty May's replacement after May left to become head coach of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks in June.

"Mike is a veteran assistant with strong head coaching experience and a clear understanding of the standard we expect at Michigan," UM athletic director Manuel said in a statement. "Over the past two seasons, he has been an invaluable member of our staff, bringing stability, leadership and perspective during an important period of success. Our players and staff believe in his vision, are committed to his leadership and are excited for the opportunity to pursue great success together this season."

Boynton spent the past two seasons on Michigan's staff, helping May guide the Wolverines to a 64-13 record and the 2026 national championship. Before arriving in Ann Arbor, Boynton served as Oklahoma State's head coach, compiling a 119-109 record while leading the Cowboys to one NCAA Tournament appearance and two NIT quarterfinal berths.

"I'm grateful to Warde for his confidence and thankful for the opportunity to lead this program," Boynton said in the statement. "We have built a championship culture and a standard that everyone associated with this program takes great pride in. We have an outstanding group of players, and I'm excited to get to work and continue the success we've established together."

A Brooklyn, New York, native, Boynton was a four-year letterwinner at South Carolina, appearing in 125 career games and helping the Gamecocks reach the 2004 NCAA Tournament. As a senior, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 assists while earning SEC All-Tournament Team honors.
