The Hurry-Up: Ohio State Offers In-state Offensive Linemen and Twin Brothers Deontae and Devontae Armstrong, 4-star Safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Florida WR Terrance Moore

Ohio State gave no shortage of offers to various prospects this week.

That trend continued Friday as four more recruits picked up an OSU offer, bringing the total to 15 players offered this week. 

Larry Johnson and Tony Alford did the heavy lifting earlier in the week by offering a plethora of defensive linemen and two running backs. Friday, Justin Frye offered two in-state offensive linemen, Perry Eliano offered a top-100 safety prospect and Brian Hartline offered a talented wide receiver in the 2024 class.

Let’s dive right in. 

Deontae and Devontae Armstrong

It’s only right that we group Ohio prospects and identical twin brothers Deontae and Devontae Armstrong in the same section, right? 

Friday, Frye officially made the Armstrong twins the first in-state offensive linemen in the 2024 class to receive an offer from the Buckeyes.

Both are considered three-star prospects per 247Sports’ composite rankings, with Devontae checking in as the 354th-best prospect (27th-ranked offensive tackle) and Deontae slotting in at 429th overall (34th OT). The twin brothers have very similar offer sheets, with Deontae holding 19 Division I offers and Devontae earning 18 Division I offers to this point. Of the schools that have offered both, some of those include Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Kentucky, Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. 

Deontae and Devontae have both visited OSU numerous times for a combination of spring practices, gameday visits and recruiting camps. The pair worked out at a camp together this summer and later attended OSU’s regular-season finale against Michigan. Both consider the Buckeyes to be the team they grew up rooting for. 

“Being a Buckeye fan all my life, I mean, looking at it from the outside in and now from the inside out with working with the coaches, talking to Ryan Day, it means even more, knowing the coaches and the coaching staff,” Deontae Armstrong said after OSU’s recruiting camp.

“Just watching Ohio State just all our life, actually meeting the coaches and establishing a relationship with the coaches is just surreal to me,” Devontae Armstrong said in June. 

While both prospects have the length and size to profile as tackles (Deontae is 6-foot-7, 270-pounds and Devontae is 6-foot-6, 283 pounds), Deontae plays right tackle for Ohio powerhouse St. Edward, while Devontae plays left guard. Four-star Ohio prospect Ben Roebuck, who has received interest from OSU but not an offer, is the other tackle for St. Edward. 

While the recruitments of both prospects have been eerily similar thus far, the twins aren’t considered a package deal by any means, though they’d enjoy it if they play together at the next level.

“Maybe he sees something in a school that I don't, so I'm not going to compromise and go to a school he goes to, but it would be pretty nice playing with my brother,” Deontae said.

Jordon Johnson-Rubell

Of the four players Ohio State offered Friday, Johnson-Rubell is the most highly touted, as he's considered the 86th-best prospect and the seventh-rated safety. 

Johnson-Rubell, the third IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida) product to be offered by OSU this week, has more than 30 Division I offers, including Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, Kansas State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas Tech and USC.

On the same day he was promoted to Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, Hartline offered three-star Florida prospect Terrance Moore Friday. 

Moore is considered the 384th-best prospect and 53rd-best wide receiver in the 2024 class, but he has picked up several prestigious offers, with 32 total Division I offers in hand. Some of those schools consist of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and UCF. 

In 11 games for Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Florida) in 2022, Moore caught 42 passes for 1,021 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. He also ran for 155 yards on three carries with two rushing touchdowns. 

Jeremiah McClellan says OSU will be in his top schools

Speaking of wide receivers, one of Ohio State’s 2024 wideout targets is in the process of narrowing down his top schools. 

Four-star Missouri prospect Jeremiah McClellan is unsure of what colleges will comprise the entire list of his top schools, but he told On3 this week he’s certain of three that will be on there when he’s ready to announce it: Ohio State, Michigan and Tennessee. McClellan will be visiting Tennessee this weekend once the dead period lifts. He’s visiting Tennessee first because it’s the lone school of the three he has yet to visit. 

McClellan picked up his OSU offer in September, then visited Ohio State on Oct. 1 for the Rutgers game.

“It is all about coach (Brian) Hartline and what he is doing,” McClellan told On3 about Ohio State. “He gets top receivers, he develops them and they get drafted. Coach Hartline is one of the best. It would be great to play for a coach like him. He just gets his guys ready for the league. Then Kamryn Babb and Cameron Brown both played at my high school before going to Ohio State and they loved it.”

In 14 games for Christian Brothers College in 2022, McClellan caught 61 passes for 1,103 yards with 13 receiving touchdowns and 18 total touchdowns. He also returned punts (33.3 yards per punt return) and kickoffs (29.3 yards per kickoff return) for Christian Brothers.

Christian Bentancur, Jaylen Heyward make commitments

As expected neither four-star 2024 tight end Christian Bentancur nor four-star 2024 safety Jaylen Heyward chose Ohio State when making their commitments on Friday. 

Bentancur picked Clemson, while Heyward opted to commit to two-time defending national champion Georgia.
