Supreme '18 Tracker: Teradja Mitchell Leads Dominant Defensive Effort While While Jaiden Woodbey’s Pick-Six Seals Game

Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Ohio State's Supreme '18 recruiting class have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.

PURE DOMINATION

Using to lack of an opponent on Ohio State’s schedule this weekend to my advantage, I made a trip to Virginia Beach’s Bishop Sullivan to watch Ohio State four-star linebacker commit Teradja Mitchell. And it was worth it, as the Crusaders dominated throughout on their way to a 68-0 win over Royal Imperial Collegiate of Canada on Friday night.

Mitchell nearly got the scoring started, as Bishop Sullivan inserted him on offense on the second drive of the game. He ran a wheel route from the tight end position and was wide open in the end zone, but the pass from Maryland quarterback pledge Tyler DeSue was just off his fingertips and fell incomplete.

It was the only off-target pass all night, though, as DeSue threw for three first-half touchdowns before watching the game from the bench after the Crusaders took a 55-0 halftime lead.

The story of the game, however, was the Bishop Sullivan defense, which held the Knights to negative-26 yards and only allowed one first down on the evening. The Crusaders routinely blitzed, which subsequently caused fumbled snaps — two of which became turnovers. And when they didn’t, Mitchell cleaned up any short run or pass plays across the middle.

With the win, Bishop Sullivan evens its record at 4-4. And though the season — which has included nationally-ranked opponents from Florida, Georgia and Massachusetts — hasn’t exactly been what Mitchell and the Crusaders hoped, it’s clear they’re still among the top teams in Virginia.

GAME-SAVER

With Santa Margarita down two and driving in the final minute of the game, Ohio State four-star safety commit Jaiden Woodbey picked off a pass and returned it 33 yards to effectively seal a 40-38 win for St. John Bosco on Friday night.

The game featured many momentum swings, as the Eagles rushed out to a 14-0 lead. The Braves battled back behind backup quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and took a 23-14 lead into the half.

Uiagalelei’s touchdown pass on the opening drive of the third quarter extended the Bosco lead, but the offense was stagnant from there, only able to contribute a field goal from there.

Margarita cut the lead to two and got the ball back with just over a minute remaining, but Woodbey’s pick-six ended the hope of a comeback. The Eagles scored quickly thereafter, but the Braves recovered the ensuing onside-kick attempt.

It’s been tough sledding this season for Bosco, the defending state champions, as the Braves have dealt with an undisclosed injury to their starting quarterback, Iowa State three-star commit Re-al Mitchell. Their only two losses this season have come to nationally ranked opponents, however, Mater Dei and St. Thomas Aquinas.

TWO-WAY PLAYER

Ohio State four-star safety Josh Proctor, meanwhile, is among the best defensive players in the country. It’s not out of question to suggest he might be a better prospect on the offensive side, though.

Proctor was a big part of Owasso’s 60-28 win over Norman North on Friday night. He rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns and hauled in 85 receiving yards and another score to help the Rams record more than 600 yards of total offense.

Even if he never sees the field on offense when he arrives in Columbus, Proctor certainly knows what to do with the ball in his hands. That bodes well for the defense’s long lineage of touchdown-scoring safeties.
