EA Sports unveiled its list of the 25 toughest places to play in EA Sports College Football 27 on Monday, with Ohio Stadium ranked No. 2, behind only LSU’s Tiger Stadium. It marks a rise from No. 3 in CFB 26, when the Horseshoe trailed both Tiger Stadium and Penn State’s Beaver Stadium.

Whether Ohio Stadium actually ranks as the second-toughest place to play in college football is debatable. The Horseshoe is the third-largest stadium in the sport, behind only Michigan Stadium and Beaver Stadium, but in recent years it has developed a reputation for not always reaching its full volume — particularly during daytime kickoffs that have become common on Ohio State’s schedule since FOX’s Big Noon Saturday era began in 2019.

When it’s at its peak, though, the Shoe can match any environment in the country, as it did during Ohio State’s College Football Playoff win over Tennessee in 2024 and the 2025 season opener win over Texas. The numbers also underscore the Buckeyes’ advantage at home: Ohio State has lost just three games in Columbus since 2018.

Later this week, EA Sports will roll out additional rankings, including the game’s top 10 teams overall (Tuesday), top 10 offenses (Wednesday), top 10 defenses (Thursday) and full team ratings (Friday).

EA Sports College Football 27, the third installment in the revived series since its return in 2024, will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 9. Early access begins July 2 for MVP+ members and July 6 for Deluxe Edition buyers.
