After an impressive camp performance that landed him a scholarship offer, cornerback Denzel Ward wasted no time, committing to Ohio State on the spot today.

The Ward File

  • Size 5-11/165
  • School Nordonia (Macedonia, OH)
  • Position CB
  • Class 2015
  • Composite ★★★
  • Rank 50 (CB)

The three-star corner chose the Buckeyes over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Rutgers, Syracuse and others.

Ward is the ninth member of Ohio State's class of 2015 and the second camp commitment of the day for the Buckeyes, joining four-star class of 2016 offensive lineman Tyler Gerald, who committed 20 minutes earlier.

Often referred to as the fastest player in Ohio, Ward burst onto the scene after clocking a 4.31 in the 40-yard dash at February's "Best of the Midwest" combine. That time earned Ward a quick offer from Cincinnati and it also caught Ohio State's attention, which led to a spring practice and camp invite for the 5-foot-11, 165-pound corner.

As a junior at Nordonia, Ward caught 37 passes for 658 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded five interceptions for the 8–3 Knights.

Ward joins Jamel Dean at cornerback in this recruiting class. Ohio State is also considered one of the finalists for four-star Pennsylvania cornerback Jordan Whitehead, who plans to announce on October 3.

After a slow start to this cycle, Urban Meyer has now locked up the services of seven prospects in the last 11 days, five of whom will be members of the next class.

Director of Player Personnel Mark Pantoni sums up this run, and in particular, this afternoon, pretty well:

Indeed.
