Michael Adedokun and Makenna Webster are Ohio State’s Athletes of the Year.

Ohio State announced Tuesday that it named Adedokun as its male athlete of the year and  Webster as its female athlete of the year, making both of them eligible for the Big Ten Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced by the conference in July.

Adedokun beat out a host of stars from the national championship football team and national champion wrestler Jesse Mendez, among others, to win Ohio State’s Male Athlete of the Year award after he became the first player in Ohio State men’s soccer history to win the MAC Hermann Trophy, the soccer equivalent of the Heisman.

Adedokun led the Big Ten with 11 goals and 11 assists in 2024 as he led the Buckeyes to a 16-2-4 season that included Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles. Ohio State earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and made the College Cup for just the second time in program history before losing to Marshall in the national semifinals.

Webster earns female athlete of the year after starring in two different sports for the Buckeyes. First, she earned unanimous All-Big Ten and second-team All-American honors in field hockey after ranking in the top eight nationally with 16 goals and 42 total points for the 2024 season and leading the Buckeyes to a 14-5 season. She followed that up by helping lead the women’s ice hockey team to its fourth straight national championship game appearance as she scored 35 points (12 goals, 23 assists) in just 30 games.

Webster was also Ohio State’s female recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor. Cody Simon earned that honor on the men’s side after helping lead the Ohio State football team to its national championship as its team captain, “Block O” wearer, starting middle linebacker and leading tackler.

Adedokun and Webster were both fifth-year seniors whose Ohio State careers are now complete.
