The Cleveland Guardians completed the greatest comeback in baseball history as they won the 2025 AL Central title after being down 15.5 games in early July. Never before had a team come from that large of a deficit to win a division championship. The Guardians' pitching in September was spectacular, as they went 19 straight games in which the starters gave up 2 runs or less. Manager Stephen Vogt and Pitching Coach Carl Willis decided to go with a 6 man rotation, and that decision turned out to be a brilliant one. In those 19 games Cleveland went 17-2. Not only was the pitching amazing, but the team took on division leading Detroit and proceeded to win 5 of the last 6 games between the 2 teams. The offense also kicked in with some clutch hits and the defense displayed some great glove work. Veterans and rookies alike all contributed to the remarkable surge to the top of the division.
This past weekend saw the Guardians' fight for the division title pay off. Cleveland won 3-2 on Saturday as CJ Kayfus was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded, then on Sunday with Boston beating Detroit 4-3, the Guardians saw the Central title right in front of them, and Brayan Rocchio's 3 run HR off the foul pole in the 10th inning gave Cleveland its 2nd consecutive AL Central championship. They finished 88-74, 1 game ahead of Detroit.
Very proud of the Guardians!! They never gave up, setting their eyes on the prize despite having to climb out of a huge hole. Now we fans are blessed to see our beloved team playing October baseball. Anything is possible from here on!!
Go Guardians!!
