The Guardians open spring training play soon and the expectation for the team by many baseball pundits is to win back to back Central Division titles. The Guardians have added a few power pieces to the roster, those being Josh Bell and Mike Zunino. Both Bell and Zunino have had previous very good power numbers. Bell slipped somewhat last year playing for San Diego, but he has shown that he is capable of a 30 HR season. Zunino was injured most of last season, but he has shown when healthy that he can go 30 HR. He certainly has to be an upgrade to the C position, with Bo Naylor and Bryan Lavastida backing him up. Bell will probably platoon with Josh Naylor at 1st and in the DH role.

The pitching staff is pretty much the same as last year, and that bodes well for the Guardians. Led by Shane Beiber, Cal Quantrill, Triston McKenzie as starters, and lock down closer Emmanuel Clase, the Guardians' staff looks to be one of the best in MLB.

We all know that Jose Ramirez will have another great year, but can Steven Kwan, Oscar Gonzales, Andres Gimenez, and Amed Rosario have numbers at the plate like the did in 2022? Can Myles Straw pick up his batting average? Can James Karinchak and Trevor Stephan be solid setups for Clase? If the answers to these questions are yes, good things will be happening at Progressive Field.

Big changes coming in MLB in 2023. Pitch clock, no defensive shifts like the last few years, and bigger bases are the primary differences we will see this season. And the ghost runner starting on 2nd base in extra innings returns for another season.

Looking forward to another season of Guardians baseball. I just hope it's not to hard to find the games to watch given the situation with Bally Sports.
