I don't believe the NFL would willingly part from advertising dollars but it appears the league will be looking at the future of TNF. The league has a few options here: 1. Continue as-is. 2. Eliminate TNF. 3. Alter the current TNF offering.

Personally, with the exception of Thanksgiving, I think TNF needs to be eliminated. The NFL would be better served keeping its games to 2 days a week and not saturating the market. Not to mention, rolling out two teams coming off four days rest does not make for high quality football. Maybe if teams had their bye before TNF, the quality of the game would improve. The problem with that is TNF would be eliminated the first 4 and last 3 weeks of the season.

the money generated from NFL Network due to the annual slate of exclusive games isn’t large enough to make it an impediment to broader efforts to strike the right balance between giving national audiences enough, but not too much, pro football — and to ensure that games played in prime time are truly worthy of being seen.

In other words, TNF is expendable.
