A little distraction to help us all make it through the dreaded off season came my way this morning and I thought it would be nice to share. So I'm driving into the office on this fine Monday morning, listening to the latest news on WBBM (105.9 FM) and they're talking about the double header schedule to be played today at US Cellular Field between the Indians and White Sox.
This divisional match up is already on the minds of baseball fans as Chicago holds a thin 2.5 game lead over Cleveland for the lead in the AL Central division. When these two teams meet up, you can throw the records out the window because these two teams have been doing this along time and they most certainly have a "history."
Well, as it turns out they'll be making history today instead. When they throw out the first pitch of the 4:10 match up, it will be the 18,000th game in Indians history. That's quite a number but wait. When they throw out the first pitch of the second game between these two teams at 7:10 tonight, it will be the 18,000th in White Sox history!!
Game 1 today (4:10 pm) is the 18,000th game in Indians history, and Game 2 (7:10) will be the 18,000th in White Sox history.

Who'd of thought they'd play all those games over all those years and then end up playing each other in what will be the 18,000th game for each club during a double header?! Now if my research holds true, add to that these two teams played each other in their "first" game back on April 24, 1901. The Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Blues by a score of 8-2 back then and here we all are 18,000 games later.
Seems like it was just yesterday, right?!
