I have a question based upon Louis Oosthuizen's hole in one on #16 today. His ball hit JB Holmes' ball and then changed course a bit to go into the hole. Clearly this is acceptable since they let it stand.
My question relates to Holmes' ball. My understanding is that when your ball is hit on the green you can place it back where it was before being hit and there is no penalty on either player since the shots were taken from off of the green. I heard the announcer's say that Holmes could decide on whether or not he used the new position or the original position.
- Do I understand what I heard correctly that the person whose ball was hit has the option on location?
- If that is true and Holmes' ball had also rolled into the cup would they both get credit for a hole in one?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can clarify this bizarre turn of events.
