I caught some of her quotes yesterday when the articles hit the news, and I have to admit, my first reaction was something along the lines of "grow up, you lost, learn to handle it." But then it kept coming back to my mind the more I thought about the statements she made in regards to her thoughts after that loss.

"Honestly, my thought in the medical room, I was sitting in the corner and was like, 'What am I anymore if I'm not this?'" Rousey said. "Literally sitting there thinking about killing myself. In that exact second, I'm like, 'I'm nothing. What do I do anymore? No one gives a s--- about me anymore without this.'"

Admittedly, part of me reacts like most sports fan do and says get over it, you still make a ton of money doing what you love, you clearly don't know how to deal with losing.

However, when you look at the statements it's clear that this is something much deeper, a symptom of a much bigger issue than a win or a loss. Her entire identity, how she defined herself was all wrapped up in her achievements and success. She tied her very existence and happiness to the person she was when she was on top of the world.

When you define yourself based upon what you have done, what you are doing or how you look, you are setting yourself up for a major let down. When your identity is based upon successes and abilities and how others perceive you, your foundation is temporary and fleeting.

Don't allow those things to define who you are as a person, because you could lose all those things in a moment.
