Blaz Rola became the first former Ohio State player to win a singles match at Wimbledon with a straight-set victory over Pablo Andujar, setting up a second-round match on Wednesday against defending champion Andy Murray.
Rola, who is 92nd in the ATP rankings, defeated Spain’s 80th-ranked Andujar 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. The third-seeded Murray dispatched his opening opponent, David Goffin, 6-1, 6-4, 7-5.
Rola will play Murray on Centre Court at 1 p.m. London time (8 a.m. EDT) on ESPN.
“When I saw the draw, my motivation was off the charts,” Rola said. “It feels great to have this opportunity.”
