247 Sports put out an interesting article yesterday ranking the P5 schools by number of transfers (both incoming and outgoing). Thought it'd be interesting to see where OSU stacks up.

Departing Transfers:

Ohio State has 12 departing players, which puts us tied for 32nd among the 65 P5 teams. Basically right at the average. Other notable teams tied with OSU at 12 transfers include LSU, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma.

  • Clemson and their much-hyped "family atmosphere" (eye-roll) had 11 transfers
  • Alabama was all the way up at 12th (17 transfers)
  • Among B1G teams, Maryland had the most transfers at 20 (tied for most in the country), with Indiana (19 transfers, tied for 7th) and Sparty (18 transfers, tied for 9th) next. The B1G team with the least was Iowa (5 transfers, tied for 62nd)

Incoming Transfers:

Ohio State is a bit further from the norm here, with only 2 incoming transfers, putting us tied for 48th with a bunch of teams. However, while OSU is below the general average here, we do seem to be right in line with a lot of the teams we'd compare ourselves to - Georgia took none, Clemson and TTUN 1, Penn State and Notre Dame 2, Alabama 3.

  • Nebraska leads among B1G teams with 12 incoming transfers (#3 overall), with Indiana (10 transfers, tied for 5th) and Minnesota (8 transfers, tied for 11th) right behind.

Transfer Portal Net Gain/Loss:

They only ranked teams who either (a) took more than 5 dudes or (b) brought in 50%+ incoming players compared with departing (e.g., if you lost 12 players, you'd only get ranked if you brought in 6 or more). Ohio State does not qualify for either of these, nor do any of the teams we generally compare ourselves to either nationally or in the B1G, so there's not much Buckeye-related to discuss here.
