I couldn’t help but notice that the eighth ranked player in Georgia (Harry Miller) is ranked 36th nationally (ratio of one Georgian for every 3.5 players), while the eighth best Ohioan (Ryan Jacoby) is ranked 281st nationally (ratio of one Ohioan for every 35 players).

For grind and giggles, I thought it might be interesting to see where the eighth best Ohioan was ranked nationally in the composite in past classes:

 Mike Kudla—110th
 Dareus Hiley—94th
 Gerald Cadogan—335th
 Kendall Davis—242nd
 Ray Small—129th
 Mark Jackson—268th
 Dan McCarthy—176th
 John Simon—188th
 Christian Bryant—134th
 Aundrey Walker—172nd
 Josh Perry—133rd
 Gareon Conley—153rd
 Derek Kief—216th
 Tyree Kinnel—189th
 Justin Layne—179th
 Danny Davis—230th
 Joseph Scates—266th
 Ryan Jacoby—281st
Daved Jones—not currently in the composite but ranked 362nd nationally by 247Sports.

Aside from maybe a few outliers (e.g., Cadogan in 2004), it’s evident that in the eyes of the #starhanderouters, Ohio’s high school players have steadily lost their luster.
