The Washington Commanders told former Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore that they will release him before the start of the new NFL league year next week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Lattimore’s impending release comes after he tore his ACL in the Commanders’ ninth game of 2025. He was set to make $18.5 million in 2026, but his contract carries no dead money, allowing the Commanders to release him without financial penalty.
A four-time Pro Bowler with the Saints, Lattimore was once considered one of the NFL’s elite cornerbacks but has played in just 38 games over the last four seasons due to injuries. Coming off of a season-ending injury, Lattimore will likely be in the market for a one-year deal in free agency, as teams will likely be hesitant to make a long-term commitment to Lattimore, who turns 30 in May.
