If I’m a GM… I’m drafting Sonny first.
Both of these guys are freak athletes in excel at what they were deployed to do on the football field. They are both freaks in terms of size and speed, but Sonny is a little bigger and a little more explosive. Both are worthy of top 10 picks in this draft.
I’ve always believed that Sonny was the most athletically gifted player all around on the team in his time here (Jeremiah Smith showing up maybe made him 1B). And the closest thing to a football Savant, if there is such a thing, which we also see in Caleb Downs.
He reclassified to come to OSU at 17… earns decent playing time in what would have been his senior season in HS. Plays safety for 2 years and then switches to LB.
Arvell has a huge upside, too, and his success mostly comes as a pass rusher. Nothing wrong with that. I think Sonny is more versatile. They were asked to do different things. Sonny has just demonstrated a longer history of adaptation to different positions and tasks, and that’s probably the real separator for me. The NFL could very well turn him into a freak off the edge, too. However, I don’t think you can go wrong drafting either one.
Go Bucks.
