So this is totally unrelated to the game today vs Wisconsin and I hope we don’t find ourselves in this situation this season but does anyone else think that “Prevent Defense” is as completely useless as I do?

I see it week after week and it NEVER seems to work. The latest example was today in the ASU - Texas Tech game. With around 4:00 left ASU was up by 12 and went into prevent defense. Texas tech promptly scored in under 1:45 to cut it to 5 got a 3 and out retuning a punt deep into ASU territory and scored quickly again to take the lead with around 1:30 left. Texas Tech then went into their version of prevent defense and ASU moved the ball quickly down the field and scored to take the lead back with around :30 or less in the game. Once again back into prevent defense and tech gets it down to around the ASU 30 with time for a very makeable Hail Mary that could have been caught for the win but was not.

Am I just stupid in thinking that if ASU had just played the same defense they had all game when up 12 with 4:00 that the worst that could happen is they give up the big play they are trying to prevent but ALWAYS results in a score anyway and then gets the ball back quicker with more time to try to get the score back?

I see it every week in college and the pros but it seems to work way less than it is successful. Or am I missing something?
