With the new clock rules, Ohio State is currently averaging just over 9 possessions a game. in 2018, they averaged 7 possessions PER HALF(info from Gerdeman). The running clock rule, helmet communication bringing back huddling (thanks TTUN) and longer schedule so preserving health/energy has really slowed the game down.

This really adds some perspective as you try to compare the offense to those in the past. The possessions have been cut in half and underdogs are going to milk the clock as much as possible to keep games close. This has worked a ton in college football in general, luckily OSU has avoided the perfect storm for quite a while.
