So after watching the game today, I had a long conversation about the last 25 years of Buckeye defenses. This year’s defense is different, but in a special way. The benchmark has always been the 2002 defense to me. There have been others that have been close but none were a full unit lacking in one area or another but the deficiencies were made up for by other units within the whole defense.
That brings me to this year. While I know it’s a small sample size as of now, however I had never seen or remember a more complete team defense. Every unit is out there working as one. In years past seeing the other team in open field situations, I would always be on edge for a broken tackle and a big play. This year that anxiety is all but diminished. Every level is tackling in space, and if the offensive player manages to escape, there is a swarm of defenders right there in the blink of an eye. It’s an incredible sight to see. Rather it’s the talent level having increased, Patricia just being a mastermind, and or a combination of both, this defense is Special!
This Defense is Special!!!
