I rewatched the game today, and was specifically just charting offensive plays and formations. On the surface, the box score obviously doesn’t look great. But upon rewatch, the offense was in a tough spot and it wasn’t as rough as I was thinking during the game. Only 5 drives did not start deep in our own red zone. Two of these resulted in TD’s. One ended on a badly missed PI call vs Smith. One on opening drive with the Klare drop. And the other was at the end of drive trying to bleed clock. With the drives where we were backed up, I can see why we’d play conservative with a first time starter.
Possession breakdown:
1. Start on OSU 42. Drive ends in dropped pass from Klare - Turnover on downs.
2. Start on OSU 8. Punt
3. Start at OSU 20. TD
4. Start on OSU 2. Punt
5. Start on OSU 1. Kneel to end half.
6. Start on OSU 31. Drive ends on missed PI call on Muhammad vs Smith - Punt.
7. Drive starts on OSU 1. Punt
8. Drive starts on OSU 35. TD.
9. Drive starts on OSU 9. Stalls after holding penalty made it 1st&20. 7minutes left trying to run clock. Punt.
10. Starts at OSU 25. 3minutes left. Trying to run clock. Punt.
11. Starts at OSU 47. 3 kneel downs to end game.
