Former Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown will open the season as a backup at the University of California.

According to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Golden Bears are set to name freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele their starting quarterback. A 6-foot-3, 225-pound native of Hawai'i, Sagapolutele was a four-star prospect and the No. 7 quarterback in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.com. ESPN rated him a five-star prospect.
