The contract for Wednesday night baseball between ESPN and MLB expires this season and will not be renewed. Fox is currently on the hook to televise Saturday night baseball until 2028. That is the riadblock to primetime college football on Fox.
Fox should negotiate with MLB baseball to broadcast Wednesday night baseball until 2028. That is a better time slot for MLB on National TV. No comperition from other sporting evwnts like CFB.
As part of those negotiations, either vacate the Saturday primetime slot or at least have the option to vacate that slot for marquee cfb football games from end of August until the end of the mlb season.
I am sure that Fox, MLB, and the Big Ten can work together to make this happen. I am not sure tgat I can stand the status quo for four more seasons as a fan.
I am hopeful that an Eleven Warriors writer sees this and writes an arricle on this and other potential solutions. That can help run it up the flagpole.
Maybe as fans, the more we push solutions like this or others rather than just complaining about noon kickoffs, the more likely it is that we can help push
change.
What do you think of this solution? Any solutions that you might propose? I think this parricular solution can be a win-win-win-win for Mlb, Fox, Big ten, and fans.
MLB gets baseball on a major broadcast network on Wednesday, a night with high TV viewership and few sports events. Fox, The Big, and fans get a slot opened up for primetime marquee football matchups for five fall saturdays.
