Raekwon McMillan’s 2023 NFL season appears to be over before it ever began.
The New England Patriots placed the former Ohio State linebacker on injured reserve Thursday. Because the season has not yet started, that means McMillan will be sidelined for the entire season unless he is released by the Patriots with an injury settlement.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, McMillan suffered a partially torn Achilles in practice.
It’s the latest setback in what has been an injury-plagued NFL career for McMillan, who missed his rookie season with the Miami Dolphins in 2017 and his first season with the Patriots in 2021 with torn ACLs. He bounced back from that injury to become a productive role player for the Patriots in 2022, signing a one-year contract to remain with the team this offseason after recording with 35 total tackles with five tackles for loss, one sack and a 23-yard fumble recovery touchdown last season.
Another potential season-ending injury, however, leaves McMillan’s NFL future uncertain.
