I know a lot of us have questioned if Ryan Day and the team really understand the rivalry after what happened Saturday.  I know I sure did.  But as the sting has started to wear off from the game, I am wondering if Day and company may be seeing a big picture that us fans aren’t seeing.

College football is changing.  Expanded playoffs will surely make the regular season less important and the doing away of conference divisions will certainly change things in the Big Ten.  When C.J Stroud says one game does not define us, maybe he is right?

Think about it this way, had the Big Ten done away with divisions this year both Ohio State and Michigan would have punched their tickets to play each other in the CCG before even facing off for the first time.  In a way it almost makes that first meeting meaningless.

As the “CEO” of his team, One of Ryan Day’s jobs is to be looking toward the future and creating a culture that syncs with where the college game is headed.  Maybe the culture isn’t bad like we think, and as fans we are just having a difficult time seeing the forest for the trees?

I’m not trying to downplay the rivalry, or say it isn’t important anymore; but with the way things are changing maybe the importance of winning that game every time isn’t going to be what it once was?
