So SP+ is now behind a pay wall so I cant link it but somebody posted the rankings on reddit so its still going to be free to look at. Disney makes plenty of money so I feel ok discussing it here.

  • OSU returns to #1 and is at 28.4 just ahead of Bama. Surprised they improved so much because PSU played Nebraska which should change very little in the rankings. Rutgers lost to Illinois in what was a pretty close game. #2 offense behind Bama and #7 defense. A big game coming off a bye could be a great opportunity to get into championship form.
  • Bama stays at #2 at 28.3.
  • Wisconsin is at #3 at 26.5 and I think missing 2 games removed the possibility of 2 big ten teams in the playoff. Wisconsin looked incredible just like they did against Illinois. Their offensive line and front 7 is ridiculous. If Mertz gets back to playing well they could be very good. This is the best Wisconsin team of the playoff era, most of the time they show up to Indy and cant compete athletically. Curious how this one will end up. They play Northwestern and winner should win the west as both are undefeated.
  • Clemson is #4 at 26.1. They have the reputation of struggling in the first half of the season and then rounding into elite form. With 3 weeks until a rematch to ACC it will be interesting to see if they beat their easy opponents until ND by 50 a week. They should be fully healthy coming out of a bye. Still there are questions if they are actually championship caliber. Their Oline has been soft, their secondary gives up a lot, and the front 7 isnt impressive but they had injuries there.
  • Notre Dame is #5 and is kind of in a tier of its own. Its above the rest by about a field goal but a touchdown worse than the top teams. They are what they are, good win vs Clemson but in a dome in the playoffs they probably wouldnt be able to hang.
  • The separation between 6-11 is just 1.8 points. In order its Florida, BYU, UGA, UC, Oregon, North Carolina. Florida is a team to watch because they are playing incredible right now and may be a lot better than they were at the start of the season. They have the east locked up and should be a real challenge in the SEC championship.
  • Guess at the #3 team in the B1G? You are wrong its Iowa at #13. They lost 2 games they were better in and then dominated the next two. PSU could lose again.
  • PSU is still at #16 despite being 0-4. SP+ had them outplaying Indiana and Nebraska, playing as well as expected against OSU, and the only big drawback is being dominated by Maryland. The best two players in Micah Parsons and Journey Brown being out along with your worst position being QB is probably the difference between 0-4 and 3-1.
  • Indiana is all the way down at #26. The analytics are much lower than the polls. The SP+ differential of 17 matches the Vegas spread if you add 3 points for home field. Indiana has relied on turnovers and a little bit of luck to get to 4-0. They are a good team but the party should be ending pretty soon.
  • Michigan is #27 likely holding onto it based on preseason projections and recruiting rankings. Atrocious team.
  • Nebraska is #35 and thats a good sign when evaluating the OSU vs Nebraska performance. A 35 point win over a team of that caliber is impressive. Would love to see them continue to improve with some easier games ahead.
  • Rutgers is at 108. Honestly surprised they are that low because they have kept games close. Coach of the year in the B1G should be Schiano with what he is doing. Rutgers lost to Iowa, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Indiana by a combined 234-14 last year. This year they forced lost to OSU by 22 and was in a position to beat Indiana and Illinois. Incredible what he has done.

After a bad week of college football this one should be a bit more exciting. OSU vs Indiana will be a great gauge where OSU really is. UC vs UCF is the best G5 offense vs the best G5 defense. Wisconsin vs Northwestern is the B1G west championship game. Iowa vs PSU and Michigan vs Rutgers could both put the East division rivals in a really really bad spot. The Big 12 has been out of the spotlight for a few weeks but Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma should be a fantastic game. OU is out of it this year but it should be a good evaluation of what they could be in '21. OkState's potential dream season could end with a loss as Texas and OU would likely end up boxing them out of the championship game. The SEC and ACC are pretty boring matchups this week and as much as I love college football I cant bring myself to watch a conference that is arguably worse than the AAC.
