I saw this on TOS and thought it was a fun, debatable, off-season topic. Here's my 2000s three deep:
QB - Haskins, Fields, T. Smith - Tough one for me. From a pure talent standpoint, it's hard leaving Pryor and Braxton Miller off but Smith has a Heisman. Fields will be #1 next summer, I'm sure.
RB - Zeke, Dobbins, Beanie - Clarett was incredible as a freshman and we don't win a title without him. However, only playing one season, it's hard for me to put him in the top 3.
WR - Mike Thomas, Santonio Holmes, Michael Jenkins - Talk about some studs.
WR - Tedd Ginn Jr., Devin Smith, Parris Campbell - Campbell's final season in Columbus was incredible, and not talked about enough in my opinion.
TE - Stoneburner, Heurman, Vannett - This is a tough one. Baugh could be in there. Hartsock, perhaps. Ruckert or Farrell could jump in there with a big season this year.
LT - Taylor Decker, Jack Mewhort, Mike Adams - Adams SHOULD be #1 based off of his traits but Decker (despite Khalil Mack), and Mewhort were too solid.
LG - Billy Price, Andrew Norwell, Michael Jordan - The move to center cost Jordan the #1 spot here. His sophomore season was fantastic.
C - LeCharles Bentley, Nick Mangold, Pat Elflein - I think this should be a pretty common top 3.
RG - Wyatt Davis, Jonah Jackson, Rob Sims - This is cheating. But Jonah Jackson deserves a spot. Wyatt Davis is an absolute stud.
RT - Shane Olivea, Kirk Barton, Reid Fragel
Offensive honorable mentions - Curtis Samuel, Rob Sims, JT Barrett, Mo Clarett, Alex Gonzales, Brian Hartline, Marcus Baugh, Isaiah Prince, Alex Boone, KJ Hill, Braxton Miller, Terrell Pryor, Carlos Hyde
DE - Chase Young, Nick Bosa, Tyquan Lewis - This is as straightforward as it gets IMO. Chase Young is the BEST defensive player I've watched at Ohio State in my 25 years of watching closely.
DT - Kenny Peterson, Hankins, Michael Bennett - Michael Bennett's senior season was fantastic and he certainly deserves some mention.
DT- Cam Heyward, Dre'Mont Jones, Adolphus Washington
DE - Joey Bosa, Will Smith, Vernon Gholston - Tough between Joey and the fresh prince of Columbus, but I think Bosa was slightly better. Despite being an NFL bust, Gholston was a QB nightmare with Ohio State.
LB - Shazier, Lee, Baker
LB - Hawk, McMillian, Wilhelm
LB - Laurinaitis, Carpenter, Harrison
I went positionless for the most part here. These guys, outside of maybe McMillian, can move around. Matt Wilhelm was insanely good during that national championship season.
CB - Okudah, Gamble, Ward
S - Hooker, Jenkins, Bell
S - Doss, Whitner, Kurt Coleman
CB - Lattimore, Roby, Chimdi Chekwa
The final corner spot can be debated, I'm just a big fan of Chekwa. This secondary is as good as it gets for the 2000s in all of CFB.
Defensive honorable mentions - John Simon, Gareon Conley, Eli Apple, Damon Arnette, Quinn Pitcock, Sam Hubbard, Jalyn Holmes, Nate Salley, Darrion Scott
This was really difficult and I'm sure there is room for debate and I likely forgot someone, but what a 3-deep.
